Magic-Realism
Even in prehistoric times, creative people still expressed their own individuality. Whatever the process or vision, one took the materials available, and formed with them a revelation for other people to see of an inner realm of experience. Whether the purpose of the creation was magical, emotionally expressive, or documentary, the process of having to choose and manipulate was relatively the same.
The cave painter was probably an individual, who was intent on making marks that would effect his or her local society. The images were created in a process which transformed raw materials into a sign, using the pathway of a personal vision. It was a type of telepathic self-projection, and remains so for the painters of today.
