Black women have always been at the front of the struggle for equal rights in the US. Their achievements were often hidden or forgotten in both the Civil Rights Movement and in Feminism. Their strength, courage, and ability to bounce back can’t be over-rated. Black women have an unique point-of-view in terms of understanding the confluence of race and gender, through their particular experience of subjugation. Black women are connected by the historic memory of oppression, and generations of struggle against it.
