Fatimah al Zahra, was the daughter of Mohammed, the central prophet of Islam. She is considered throughout Islam as a woman of great virtue. In the Shia sect of Islam, she is believed to be the mother of the through-line of the transmission of Islam from Mohammed to today. She represents the continuum of the Law, and through her example underscores the importance of women in that faith system. To my mind, she represents what a gentle person of loving heart and courageous demeanor, can offer in this all-too-crazy world.
