I've long enjoyed the mythical belief that cats have nine lives. The idea is an old one, going back to ancient Egypt. The cat-headed goddess Bast was said to have nine lives. In this illustration in search of a story Chris, the protagonist, is visited by the Goetic demon Forneas. Chris is a cat-lover who is lamenting the death of her beloved pet cat. Forneus brings the pet back from the grave, for a tenth go-round.
